Bastrop County Historical Commission (BCHC) Quarterly Meeting

 

The quarterly meeting of the Bastrop County Historical Commission took place Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Bastrop County Courthouse Commissioners Conference Room.

 

I. Introductions: Bastrop BCHC chair Cindye Ginsel began the meeting by allowing each attendee to introduce himself/herself and provide a brief summary as to their work with the BCHC.

II. Historical Markers: Cindye provided a recap regarding the sites which are to be acknowledged with historical markers. All are approved with one exception, Paige School. The application for Paige School has been received and is under review.

• Mary Christian Burleson Cemetery, Elgin (Marker approved, inscription approved, marker in progress)

• Siloah Cemetery, McDade - Linda Hicks (Marker approved, revised copy for marker submitted; under review)

• Leshikar House, Smithville - Faith Franklin (Marker approved, revised copy for marker submitted; under review)

• Rosanky Cemetery, Rosanky - Galynn Fogle 

• Paige School, Paige 

 

III: BCHC Finances: Cindye reported the BCHC has $9,841.07 in its bank account at Roscoe Bank.

IV. Elgin Historical Preservation Plan: Cindye announced the City of Elgin Preservation Committee is beginning work on a preservation plan and has asked for a list of Elgin-area cemeteries, descriptions and other information. The BCHC went through the list of cemeteries and the members from Elgin provided helpful information to complete the project.

V. Special Guest Melba McLemore presented: "The Night before Christmas 1883."

VI. Adjourn – The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 pm.

 

The next meeting will be June 13, 2019.
